“I swear that I can almost hear a CLICK, when that light-bulb moment happens!“     – Dr. Diane Longstreet
This interactive activity has resulted in ‘Ah-Ha’ insights for thousands, as they shifted from short-term to long-term thinking. The outcome of the experience was their ability to grasp, perhaps for the first time, the ‘value over time’ of an opportunity

A Different Way of Seeing

1. Take a look at the Process Line below which runs from 0 to 100+. This is a visual image of your life as the continuum it really is. Not as individual, unrelated events, but as a series of moments that add up to your life.

2. Now, put your mouse away and physically touch this RED STAR Screen Shot 2013-10-09 at 12.56.51 AMon your screen with both of your index fingers. These are the two fingers you will use for the next step.

3. Take your two index fingers and touch them at the point on the Process Line which is your current age. This is today, where you are right now. This is your only point of decision and of action.

4. Keeping both fingers on the screen, gently slide just your left finger slowly across the screen down to the ‘0’, then slide it back to your age.

→That is the past, how long you have been alive. That is how long it took you to gather your skills and experiences to become the amazing person who you are today. This is also how long it took to accumulate today’s debt and regret.

        5. Now, gently slide just your right finger across the screen down to the 100, then, slide it back to your age.

→This is how long you may have left! This is how long you will enjoy the benefits of good choices you make today and this is how long you may suffer the consequences of bad choices made today.

Is the future longer or shorter than you imagined?

What will be the value over time of an important decision today?

HINT: Try it again, placing your fingers at the age of your prospective client. How long will your clients (and their families) benefit from your services today?

If I’d known I was going to live to be 100, I would have taken up the violin at 60. I’d have been playing for 40 years by now.
